In the United States - Labor Day was the
creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the
social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly
national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength,
prosperity, and well-being of our country. It has come to be recognized
in the U.S. not only as a celebration of the working class, but as the
end of the summer season. In the northern half of the U.S. the
summer vacation season begins with Memorial Day and ends with Labor Day.
